CIVIL MARRIAGES INCREASING
“Civil marriages are becoming more popular over the country generally,” states a Condon registrar, Who attributes the increase to the fact that a civil marriage is less expensive than a religious ceremony. - “I do not think,” the registrar said, “that the increase in the number of civil marriages reflects a slackening of the religious beliefs of the people.” From 1919 to 1924 the proportion of civil mairiages was 24 per cent, of the total.
