PERSONAL AND GENERAL (From Our Own Correspondent.) MASTEIRTON, November 29. Mr T. E. Beaven, of Raurimu, clerk to the Kaitieke County Council, has been appointed clerk to the Wairarapa South County Council. Mrs Madsen, senior, of Masterton, died suddenly at Pahiatua yesterday. She leaves a grown-up family. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital after a brief illness, of Mr Augustus J. Weyland, a wellknown resident of Masterton, in his sixtieth year. Deceased was born in America and had resided in Masterton for some 25 years. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. The death occurred in Masterton Hospital on Saturday evening of Mr Raymond E. H. Croxson, at the age of twenty-one years. The late Mr Croxson had been in indifferent health for some time. He was a son of Mrs and the late Mr W. D. Croxson, who was at one time manager of Messrs Stempa and Son’s butchery business in Masterton and later managed Mr F. Stempa’s business in Carterton. Mrs Croxson is a resident of Carterton, where the deceased was secretary to Mr Gordon Hugh an, motor engineer. A successful garden party was held at the residence of Mrs A. \Y. Cave, at Kuripuni, on Saturday, in aid of the funds of the Church of the Epiphany. The following were the stallholders, etc., and amount taken at each stall:—Produce: Mrs W. B. Taylor; £4 6s 2d. Work: Miss Godfrej% Miss McKenzie: £4 Is 9d. Ice-cream and strawberries: Mrs F. Whitton, Mrs W. Dalrymple: £5 4s Gd. Christmas tree: Mrs and Miss Yalden; £2 19s. Bran tub: Mrs G. W. Perry ; £1 14s 3d. Afternoon tea : Mrs Nesbit, Mrs J. Miller. Miss Henson, and others. Nail driving: Messrs Yalden and Brett: 18s 3d. Christmas cake: Miss A. Ashwell, Miss E. Pearce, £1 7s. Christmas pudding: Miss A. Bungate; £l. The winners of the competitions held during the afternoon are as follow: —Weightguessing: Christmas cake, Miss V. Edwards: Christmas pudding, Mrs Sayers. Nail-driving: Ladies. Mrs C«. Taylor; men. Mr Jackson.
