METHODIST BAZAAR AT OTAKI

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. (“Times” Correspondent.) Members of the Otaki Alethodist Church are to be heartily congratulated on the success of their annual bazaar, held at the Lyric Theatre. De- i spite tho unfavourable weather the attendance was good, and as tho articles were varied and offered at tempting prices, quick sales resulted. The various stalls were nicely displayed, while the attendants were very attentive. The Christmas tree was a feature of the proceedings, the lovely totarft trees, on which was displayed various articles, being gaily decorated with coloured electric lights, tho handwork of Mr Marriott. During the afternoon the stalls were well patronised. good business resulting: in fact, tlic turnover will prove highly gratifying. At 2.30 the Uev. It. J. Liddell stated that ho had been thinking of the rapid flight of time, this being the third function of its sort since his arrival in Otalii. He had, he stated, great pleasure in calling upon the Mayor to perform the opening ceremony, and expressed delight at Mr and Mrs Brandon being present. They had always been kind, generous, and willing to assist in the work, while added the Kev. Liddell, they possess::cl a splendid band of workers also, even better than previous years, and as a result of their work they had a better bazaar, and in conclusion lie hoped for increased returns. The rev. gentleman then called upon Mr Brandon to declare the bazaar open. (Applause.) Tho Mayor stated that it afforded him great pleasure to be present, and ho appreciated the whole-heartedness of the work. This was the fifth occasion he had officiated, and it appeared to him that tho bazaars were hotter each time. He was sure tho display iva« one that would do credit to any town in New Zealand, and he hoped the general public would appreciate the efforts of tho promoters and spend freely. On behalf of Mrs Brandon nnd himself he thanked all for their kind invitation, and said that he had much pleasure in declaring tho bazaar open. (Applause.^
