SUCCESSFUL MEETING ON BASIN MSS EASTWOOD BREAKS RECORD ETEVENEAUX CUP TO WELLINGTON The 'Wellington Amateur Athletic Club's meeting, postponed on account of unpropitious weather on Saturday, was conducted on the Basin Reserve last evening, before an attendance of about *2OOO spectators*. The track was in good order, and the times exceedingly good. Miss Eastwood (Gisborne) establishing a new New Zealand record in the 100 yards ladies’ events, and C. Jenkins doing even time for the same distance. The principal attraction was the ladies' 4U) relay race between Wellington and Gisborne, for the Etcveneaux Cup, and first honours went to the home team (holders) after a stirring struggle. The meeting was well conducted, and interest was sustained by the expeditious manner in which tho officials dispatched the fields. Results are a.s follow : 100yds Junior Handicap—M. Baker led out of the straight for the last lap, with McFedries second. Bird third, and Carswell fourth, McFedries came fast on the outside to win by six inches, with a similar distance separating second and third. Jtekiy Race "Wellington (Aliases B. Porter, S. Miss Porter, who ran fir>t and hail the inside running, held an advantage of throe yards when the first 100 yards was covered. The Wellington team, changing the baton beautifully, increased their lead to four yards by the time the last runner, Miss Manton, was reached. Miss Eastwood, her opponent, ran splendidly, and reduced the lead by two yards, an excellent finish resulting. The time recorded was 53sec. Newnham (125yds), 3. Time, 4min 31 4-ssec. Ingham, Gisborne, started off the 60yds mark, but did not improve his position better than sixth at any stage. Wilson took the lead in the last lap, and was strongly challenged in the straight by Whelan.
