“NO OYERTIME" STRIKE
AFFECTING OTHER WORKERS NEWCASTLE CRANE-DRIVERS IDLE fifteen ships held jjp Bt Telegraph. —Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, November 29. The crane employees at Newcastle have decided to strike as a protest against the action of the Railway Commissioners in serving notice of dismissal on 88 crane employees. The union’s action will have the effect of completely crippling the shipping trade of the port, and, within a week, of forcing the management ot nearly ©very colliery on the northern fields'to shut down the mine. The dismissal of the crane employees is due to the operation of the ‘no overtime” strike. The coal trimmers are ceasing work at 4 o clock in the afternoon instead of working 24 hours daily There is not sufficient work to justify the retention of the services of the crane drivers. (Received November 29, 8.30 p.m.) As the result of the crane drivers strike the Newcastle port is at a standstill. . Fifteen steamers are waiting for If the dispute is not settled speedily work at the collieries will be seriously inconvenienced, and some of them will be compelled to cease operations.
