SHOW ASSOCIATION

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS THE JOHN STREET SITE LIVE STOCK SCHEDULE FOR 1927 A meeting of the Wellington Show Association was held last night, Mr R. H. Nimmo presiding. There was a good attendance of members. The combined executive reported that after many interviews with bis Warship the Mayor, aiul Mr \Y. H. Bennett, the act-ing-chairman ot the sub-committee, and the city solicitor, an agreement was come to embodying tho general terms upon which tho John street site was asked for. The council later udopted the report as presented by the special committee embodying these terms, giving the association the right to use tlio grounds on conditions set out in their memorandum, subject, however, to a special condition that nothing should be done until the Act had been passed by Parliament, The executive committee met to consider the matter and adopted the manager’s recommendation that the executive, together with representatives of the Ratepayers’ Associations and other bodies, should wait on the finance committee of the City Council at its next meeting. BUILDING A letter was received from the architects pointing out that unless an agreement with the council could be finalised at once, it would be impossible to have the whole of the buildings erected for the next show, but suggested that part of the buildings could be gone on with. In view of the general situation, the executive was of opinion that there is no possibility of any building being in readiness for the next Winter Show, and were taking other steps with a view to providing other accommodation. in the meantime, steps were being taken to carry out the executive’s recommendations in regard to the lease; and the whole question regarding the tenure would be discussed by the executive as soon as the council’s decision was known. It was stated during the meeting that the membership of the Show Association now stood at 1050. This includes 121 new* members whose names were read out last night. The association has now published its “Live Stock Schedule” for 1927. Full information may be obtained from the secretary. Mr C. H. Bowden, Box 1223, G.P.0.. Wellington.
