NEW ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

HISTORIC ONE REPLACED (By Telegraph.—Special to “Times.”) AUCKLAND. November 28. Archbishop Redwood opened the new Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph and St. Joachin’s, at Otahuhu this morning. The brick edifice, of Gothic design, has been built to replace the wooden building that served the needs of the Roman Catholic community for a long period. Archbishop Redwood was a pupil of the first parish priest, Father Garin, one of the first Marist missionaries. The early history of the parish, one of the oldest of the Church in New

Zealand, is closely associated with the Maori Wars. The building, which is partially completed, will seat 400, and the cost, of the complete structure is estimated at £II,OOO. .
