Leicester first pressed, and penned the Maoris for several minutes in their own territory. The Maoris were penalised for offside play, and Prentice kicked a goal. Pelham seemed certain to score after a powerful run, but was grassed near the line. The Maoris were given a penalty kick, from which they gained nothing. Leicester's fast wing three-quarter, Farndon. got the hall near half-way soon after, and swerving cleverly, crossed under the posts. Prentice eas- a ilv kicked a goal. Before the interval Falwnsser spared an unconverted try for the Maoris.
