“THE GREATER GLORY.” From a lowly scrubwoman to the toast of Vienna is the spectacular rise effected by Anna Q. Nilsson, who plays the leading role in “The Greater Glory,” June Mathis’s colossal film epic now showing at the Paramount Theatre. The production is an adaptation of the celebrated novel. “Viennese Medley.” by Edith O’Shaughnessy. The story "follows the fortunes of a fine old Austrian family. After the war Miss Nilsson, who is a member of this family, is reduced by circumstances to accept a menial position. TheYi she is discovered by a former shopkeeper, who has reaped untold wealth as a result of war profiteering. In a short time she is the idol of Vienna's new multimillionaires. The drama is a poignant recital of the downfall and ultimate reliabiltntion of what was once the gayest city of the Austrian empire. A side of the war not hitherto revealed is brought to light in “The Greater Glory.” Aliss Arnthis, who is responsible for “The Four Horsemen” and other screen masterpieces. has put a realism into this picture that is wholly new. Other principals in the cast besides Miss Nilsson are Conway Tearle, May Allison. lan Keith. Jean Hersholt and Lucy Beaumont. There are more than a score of well-known players in the supporting cast. About 1600 “extras” were used. A first-rate musical score is rendered by the Paramount Orchestra.
