A HIGHLY-ESTEEMED LADY
THE LATE MISS FRANCES KEITH PAYNE MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED. On. Saturday Mr C. A*. Luke, chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, unveiled the memorial tablet the memory of the late Miss Frances Keith Payne at the Wellington Hospital. In his opening speech Mr Luke snokc of the verv good qualities of Miss Payne, and of her lengthy and excellent service as matron of the hospital. ‘•'Miss Payne was the finest nurses’ superintendent it has been my privilege to know.” «atd Or Hardv.iokoSmith. who also spoke of the excellent work done bv Miss Payne. The late Miss Payne was trained in the Wellington Hospital, and became sister, and afterwards matron of the (*hri c tcbnroh Hospital. After one year in the latter institution she returned to Wellington as matron, but after serving for a period left for Rotorua. After two years duty in Rotorua Miss Payne again returned to Wellington, ind (with the exception of .the years *pent at Rotorua') was matron of the Wellington Hospital for the greater part of twenty yrars. Tn October of 11)16 M'S.s Payne resigned from tho hospital staff, leaving behind her a most excellent record, and on June Oth. 1024. the much esteemed lady passed quietly away. Among others who spoke in eulogistic terms of the late Miss Pa vim were Miss Thurston. C.8.E., R.R.CV. and Dr J. S. Eliot'
