PREPARING FOR FEILDING WANGANUI TRACK WORK PROSPECTIVE COMPETITORS. (“Times” Correspondent.) WANGANUI, November 2G. Alter a few fine days the weather has broken again. If much rain falls in the interval, Lysander will not be a starter in the Stakes at Feilding. The colt is very well, but unless the going is firm he w'ili. not run on Tuesday. J.t he starts ho will probably be favourite, despite Jiis 101 b penalty. The Thorn is also engaged, but though lie is likely to prove better than ever this season, his prospects of beating Tamatete or Limited over five furlongs do not look bright. Given a nice clear day, Tamatete *wi!l prove capable of running the distance nearly as fast as ever, and Limited is also brilliant over short courses, so that W. Duncan will have two good ones to represent him. Star Area looks well after his race at Levin, where lie was unlucky. He will be hard to beat in his engagements at Feilding. Great Day has gone on the right way since racing at Waverlev, and from the way he is galloping on the tracks he should not be long in picking up a race. He w'ill be seen out at Feilding next week. The Absurd—Finerv gelding Attractive has been sold by L. G. Paul to a Waihi sportsman. Attractive displayed a lot of pace on some occasions, but liis performances were disappointing. It is probable he will be put to hurdling, at which he might do well. Musket Vein has been put into work again after a spell. She lias put on a fair amount of condition, hut she should be in good order for the Christmas meetings. Royal Elm has come along well during the last week or two, and this gelding should run prominently in. his Feilding engagements. W. H. Dwyer returned to his home at Wanganui on Wednesday, after his iccent severe operation. He is still very weak, hut is progressing satisfactorily, and was on the tracks on Thursday watching his horses work. Halgina has been doling a lot of jumping, and from the wav he is shaping ho should show improvement next time lie starts over the battens. Wallace Young has Break o’ Day in steady work. He expects Crowm Coin to enter his stable shortly. Young should do well with this pair. Yesterday moruing the weather was
fine and the tracks in good order. Deluge ran three furlongs in. 37 3-ssee, and did it easily. He is in great form. Civility was given a run over seven furlongs, the three being taken comfortably, the pace being on at top over the last half-mile, which she left behind in 40 2-ssec, and did it nicely. She will be a starter in the Feilding Cup, and should rdn out the inile and a quarter all right. Lysander, pulling hard, went six furlongs. He was allowed liis head over the last bit, sprinting very attractively. Paleta and the LimoncI —Hopeite filly went half a mile in 51 3-ssec without being extended. Thaw covered three furlongs nicely in 40 2-ssec. He should run well in the Two-year-old Handicap at Feild. ing. The form shown recently by The Lamb suggests that he is not r'o brilliant as formerly, but more solid, and he has been paid up for the mile event at Feilding instead of the Flying. Lnclv Cavendish is doing good work at Hawera, and it is predicted she will not be long in winning another race or two for G. F. Moore. She will be a runner in the Feilding Stakes. TAKAPUNA TO-DAY FIELDS REVIEWED CLOSE CONTESTS EXPECTED. (“Times” Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, November 26. The Takapuna spring meeting opens to-morrow at Dcvonporb where a large number of horses have arrived from the surrounding districts. The weather has been showery since Thursday hut is now brightening, and unless more rain falls the track will be in good order. A big field will contest the opening event, and the draw at the barrier will play a part in deciding tho best backed horses, ns a position near the rails is a decided advantage on the track. Town Bird. King Emerald, Dimmer, Royal Picture, Kyngaone, and Bahama are all possessed of speed, and in a good hefting race Royal Picture, Dimmer, and Town Bird may have tho biggest followings. Thn Tiri Highweight Handicap is purely a field of jumpers, and the Cambridge Bracelet winner, Pouri, may be
sent out favourite, with Royal Form and Pentagram next in request. Some smart sprinters are engaged -n the Borough Handicap, with the good performer Be Choucas at the head of the list. Mosaic, Archibald, and Tall Timber have all been galloping well at Ellerslie, and sa has Thursbv who would.be fancied if it were wet. Le Chouoas, Archibald, and Mosaio may bo a good trio to rely upon. Master Doon lias gone on the right way since Te Rapa, and is putting plenty of ginger into liis work, hut he may not be quite good enough. A week ago it was thought Town Bank would not be ready, but he has done exceptionally well in the meantime, Still he may be better for a race. Tresliam is an improved horse, and will strip as fit as-anything. Desert Glow, Nippy, and Ruapapa, who are trained outside Auckland, have arrived in good order, and of file lighter weights Princess Bonnie and Transformer may be the best. Tresham, Nippy, and- Town Bank may provide the favourite if the track remains good. High Finance on past form looks like seeing a short price in the Cambria Handicap, and of the others Chips and Ti Tree are likely to get most support. As in the Maiden, the draw for positions will assist in finding a favourite for the Takapuna Plate. Ruffles, Ned Kelly, Dobbin, Deliglitment, Newbury, Tinokoa, True Blood, and Valkou are all good class hades, and would provide a good field in themselves. Tlio Great Northern Guineas form may be responsible for True Blood und Tinokoa being entrusted with most money, with Ned Kelly also in demand. Since winning at Te Rapa, Quondong has worked in improved style', and lie may bo the popular choice in the Pontii Handicap. Bracken Abbey arid Blue Sky will also have friends. The conditions will have an effect on the betting in the Cheltenham Handicap, as Dare, Nancy Dee, and Hoariri are particularly good in the soft going. Anticipating fine conditions the trio most sought after may be Tea Bell, Dave, and York Abbey.
