SEVERAL SHOPKEEPERS FINED VARIOUS BREACHES OP A Of. Mr W. G. Riddell, 8.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when the following offenders were dealt with: William Darragh was fined 5s for selling bread packed in dirty newspaper. Charles F. Fowler was fined 10s for a breach of the Arms Act. On a similar offence he was fined 7s, costs only. Failing to close his shop at the proper time cost A. E. Pountney 7s, costs only. A. Barton was fined £1 for employing a shop assistant after 6 p.m. Mrs M. Hayes was ordered to pay costs, 7s, for failin gto close her shop at the proper time. For failing to keep a wages and timebook, J. W. Cocksedge was fined 103. For selling cigarettes after hours, C. P. Courbould was fined 10s, and for failing to close his shop on the statutory half-holiday lie wan fined 7s, costs only. Failing to close her shop at 6 p.m. cost Mrs M. Lowden 7s, costs only. For selling cigarettes after 7 p.m. she was similarly treated. For failing to closo her shop on Saturday afternoon, she was also fined 7s, costs only. For failing to register the contract nf an apprentice employed by him, H. Sundgrcn was fined 10s. Whitehead and Pears were fined £1 for employing a girl under 16 without a certificate of fitness.
