JOY NIGHT
REVELS IN TOWN HALL C.T.C. ANNUAL EFFORT. The Town Hall was packed to tho doors last night when the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association held its sixth annual “Joy Night.’’ This great annual effort for the sick and orphan children and the blind soldiers and fund deserves to bo well patronised—and it was. Tho money raised is distributed amongst the homes for Christmas cheer to make the little ones happy during the Christmas festival. The hall was gaily decorated with festoons of wide paper ribbon in shades of deep orange and blue. Theso hung from the ceiling and almost completely filled in the space above the floor. From the gallery railing where they were fastened were suspended poles decorated with wisteria in large clusters, with Chinese lanterns at the end. The lights were shaded with the blue or orange paper, and the whole effect was most artistic. These decorations were handed over to the organisers of “Joy Night” by the Grand Masonio Lodge of New Zealand. The dancing commenced at 8 p.m. and went on in both the big hall anil the Concert Chamber. At 9 p.m. was held tho grand march, when the judges had a hard time in deciding which of the many beautiful dresses should be awarded the prizes. Two full orchestras, under the baton of Mr Tutschka, played all the latest dance hits to the evident delight of all those present. The entrance tickets entitled holders to a chance in an art union of a gold nugget, valued at £250, and of four beautiful oil paintings. Tho evening passed all too quickly for the dancers, all of whom voted it to be the best “Joy Night” ever held. The following were the winners for the best fancy dresses: — Ladies.—Miss Goodwin (Confetti) and Miss Painter (Mum). Gentlemen. —Mr W. F. Robson (Pearl King) and Mr Bates (Dad).
