SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY

The interest in the welfare of visiting seamen was again manifest at the Sailors’ Friend Society on Thursday when Mrs P. I. Townley, as hostess, was most ably assisted to entertain her seafaring guests. The performers were Mesdames A. H. Sewell, P. J. Townley, Miss Dencker, and Messrs H. Tombs, Phillips. Well in, Cotton, Gough. Mrs A. H. Sewell was at the piano. The prizes for the competitions came from the hostess and a friend. They were eagerly fought for, and went to the Ruahine, Hainan, and Mnramn. The vote of thanks revealed how fully the men had enjoyed the evening. It was responded to by the hostess.
