PURDY AND McCarthy TWO GOOD BOYS TO MEET. There was a time when tlie local boi» ing association’s chief concern was to attract sufficient patrons to provide the wherewithal to defray expenses. During the past seasou the difficulty has been to find sufficient seating accommodation lor the large number of patrons who regularly patronise tournaments. This difficulty appears likely to be all the nunc apparent on Thursday next, when ouo of the most attractive programmes of the season is to be staged. In the meeting between Purdy and McCarthy an exceptionally fast exhibition should he seen. The former, who is recognised as one of the cleverest boxers ever produced in the Dominion. will Ik> opposed to a clever ring general, who hits hard and often v»th both hands, and the friends of Purdy will be anxious to see how he shapes against McCarthy, who is recognised in Australia as second only to champion Grime in the lightweight ranks. Tho box plan opened yesterday morning. and the keen demand for scats indicates that there will be a full booking, and intending patrons will be well advised to secure their tickets immediately.
