WATER FOR KARORI

NO DEFINITE DATE JOINT TESTING CONTINUES., Only a few short extensions which will be laid as occasion warrants, ore now required to complete the reticulation of Karori district for water supply. A report by Mr .T. M. Morice, city waterworks and drainage engineer, to the City Council, states that the 400,000 gallon reservoir which supplies the major portion of Karori and the 30,000 gallon reservoir which supplies tho higher levels have been completed. The pump and motor for delivering water to the high level reservoir have been given a trial run, and the permanent water supply for the whole of Karori will be available directly the supply from Orongoropgo reaches the main reservoir. . Testing of tho joints of the main is now being carried out and some of the joints are giving way, which means that the Spiral Lock-Bar Co. must supply new pipes to take tlieir plnce. So far tho testing lias been carried out from Orongorongo to Koro Ivoro, hut not along tho Hutt road. There may bo some faults here and it is thus impossible to say just yet when the water will be available. Tho working pressure of 340 to 350 pounds to the square inch has been on to Karori, but the joints are being tested at about 470 pounds.
