MAGISTRATE’S COURT
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE SALESMAN SENTENCED FOR THEFT. For being found by night without lawful excuse, but ui circumstances not disclosing intent to commit any other offence in an enclosed area at 117, Thorndon quay, Annie McCnrthey was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. On a charge of stealing a wristlet watch, the property of James Lawton, Thomas William Doolan, a salesman, aged 40, was sentenced to one month’s hard labour, the aentelice to be served at the expiration of his present sentence of three months, now being served. Arthur Cecil Peters, a chef, aged 39, was remanded to December 2nd on a charge .of stealing a Gladstone bag valued at £4. Bail was allowed in the sum of £75 and one surety of the same amount. For attempting to commit suicide by cutting an artery in his arm, a middle-aged man, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon. Mr C. W. Nielsen told the court that the act was the result of acute despondency, and that there was no likelihood of a repetition.
