Among the passengers by the Wahine from Lyttelton yesterday were Colonel and Mrs Knott, of the Salvation Army. Air J. AI. Fox, of the Nelson Harbour Board, has been appointed secretary of the Thames Harbour Board, out of 107 applicants, states a Press Association telegram from Thames. A Press Association cablegram from Ayancouver states that the congregation of the Grace Presbyterian Church, Calgary, Alberta, has decided to invite the Rev. James McNeill, of Nelson, Now Zealand, to become its pastor. Air Leon Cohen, who for many years was in business in Wellington, and has just returned from a trip te Europe, has been a visitor at the Wellington Bowling Club for the past few days. He leaves by the Alarama for Sydney to-morrow. Mr Peter Fraser, M.P., has been asked by a meeting of officials of various trade unions and Labour supporters to accept nomination for the Mayoralty, and has promised to give a reply in a fortnight. The recent policy of the Labour Party has been against the holding of dual offices. The Rev. J. Hobbs, vicar of Christ Church, Wanganui East, has retired after fifty years’ service, twenty years of which he spent in Hastings. He was also stationed at Terrace End, Palmerston North, before being appointed to Wangantii East. Air Hobbs intends to reside in Hastings. The Right Hon. Sir Robert Borden. G.C.M.G., K.C., Prime Alinister of Canada from 1911 to 1920, has accepted the invitation of the University of Oxford and the Rhodes Trustees to be the Rhodes Aleraorial I/ecturer for the year 1927. Sir Robert will reside in Oxford during the summer time. The title of his lectures will be announced later. A Press Association message reports the death of the Superintendent of Pcdice at Dunedin, Mr Mathieson, at the age of 60 years, after an illness lasting some weeks. Mr Alathieson, who had been in the Police Force for over forty years, was at one time ser-goant-in-chnrge of the Wellington South station. Mr Harry Jackson, late New Zealand manager of Electrolux, Ltd., who has boen transferred to Sydney to take Charge of the Australian branch, was farewelled by the head office executive, the sales staff, and branch managers, when he was presented with a clock. He was also handed a suitcase for Airs Jackson at the same function. A velcome was given to Air Sten Aurell, one of the directors from Sweden, who was presented with a handsome New Zealand-made inkstand. Air John Coyle, secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board, has been appointed secretary-superintendent of the Newcastle Hospital Board (states a Press Association message from Sydney). Air Coyle, who is a New Zealander by birth, has been a resident of Wellington for over thirty-seven years. He has been secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board for over seventeen years, and is well known throughout the Dominion in connection with hospital matters. Mr Coyle'* long connection with the Wellington board has naturally brought him into touch with large numbers of residents of the city and suburbs, and his lively interest in all questions relating to hospital affairs is widely recognised. For some years past he lias been a member of the Wellington Rotary Club and the Wellington Savage Club.
