CHURCH WELFARE

UNSATISFACTORY REPORT Per Pros- 1 Association. AUCKLAND, November 24. Speaking at the Auckland District Methodist Synod, the Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, referring to the report of the Church Welfare Committee emanating from Dunedin, said that in these days bustling with social problems when sin is dancing flippantly down the street and thousands of people never enter the House of God, it is liumilitating to have from an important committee on chuch welfare a report so feeble and unworthy. Feeble in poetry and sentiment and contented with a few pietistic expressions on the subject of art unions and wine parties, hut advancing no practical proposal for the meeting of the crying needs of the hour. To place in the hands of the Methodist people such a pastoral letter as that contained in the report, would have no moral effect. Synod decided to make no recommendation concerning the report.
