A VISITING BOWLER
WESTPORT, “THE DADDY OF THE LOT” Mr A. Hands, of Sydney, a member of Manly Club and Victoria Park Club, has arrived in Wellington this week, having completed a two months’ holiday tour of the Dominion, visiting practically all the big cities and towns from as far north as Whangarei to as far south as Invercargill. He has played on quite a number of greens, and this week has been the guest of Wellington Club. It is his first trip to New Zealand, and his impression summed up was: “It!s a beautiful little country. I wouldn’t mind being pensioned off over here.” Amongst the greens he visited was the famous Westport green, which is composed of water-weed. Asked what he thought of it, he replied: “It’s a beauty; the daddy of the lot. It is the best green I’ever played on.” Mr Hands returns to Sydney by the Marama to-morrow, but hopes it will be possible to get over to New Zealand again some time in February.
