PROSPECTS BRIGHTER
ATHLETIC TOURS
POSSIBILITY OF AMERICAN VISIT
21 DAYS’ CLAUSE MAY BE WAIVED
Athletes in New Zealand may not after all have' to content themselves with a tour of the Dominion this season of only K, W. (“Fatty”) Lamb, the crack Australian cyclist, who is due to arrive from Sydney early in January, for it is unde/stood that there is still a possibility of the details in connection with the proposed American tour being finalised. Following' on a recent cable advice received fron> the N.Z.A.A.A.’s American representative (Mr C. G. Krogness), tb the effect that there is no prospect of the visit, owing to the committee of the American Athletic Union refusing to sanction the tour, the New Zeafatid Council has beep in further coipmUnication wjth the States in regard to the matter. When approached by a “Times” reporter yesterday, the secretary of the council (Mr L. A. Tracy), admitted that cables had passed between the council arid Mr Kroghess, but was reticent to release anything for publication. It is difficult to understand this attitpde, but, nevertheless, it was reported in other circles that there is still a likelihood of the American Union waiving the stipulation that permits their athletes to . rehiain in foreign countries for Mote than 21 d4yt) and extending tM time to suit New 1 requirements.
