ARTILLERY ACTIVITIES

The committee for the artillery qusqp (Miss Norwood) in the military pageant and tattoo is getting to work to try and place their candidate at the -head of the pall. Yesterday afternoon a very successful meeting was held in the Town Hall when a rail committee was formed. Major Abel presided, and Mr W. Tiltonmist, the organiser, addressed the meeting on the aims and objects, and told wnat had been done. Dr Platts-Mills was elected chairman of an executive committee, consisting of the following ladies: —Dr PlattsMills (chair), Mrs Wright (secretary), Mesdames Abel, Fenton, Lyon, McQuarrie, McLellen, Murray, Gibbons, Parton, Longmore, Jackson, Gardner, Carter, Underwood. A girls’ committee was also elected of tne following: —Miss Mavis Hallida.v (chair). Miss Wright (secretary), Misses George, Smith, Brown, Bennie, Wallace, Anderson, Ballinger, B. George. Acktand, Freeman, Tolan, Miller, Trengrove, Jolliffe, Wells. It was decided that the whole of the ladies present would be at the dance to-night when Miss Norwood and her maids of honour will make their first official appearance. Officers and the military members will be in uniform
