OBITUARY
MAJOR GARDINER JOHNSON PIONEER. SHIP CAPTAIN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. VANCOUVER, November 21. The deatli has occurred of Major Gardiner Johnson, of Vancouver, a pioneer ship captain, well-known in Australia and New Zealand in the ’seventies, when he commanded vessels carrying immigrants to New Zealand. He played in the first cricket match in V ancouvcr. MR CLEMENT SHORTER LONDON, November 21. The death is announced of Mr Clement Shorter, editor of “The Sphere,” and a director of the Sphere and Tnfc. ler Company since 1000 and of the Illustrated London News and Sketch Company since 1022.
