GRAND CARNIVAL

TUG-OF-WAR CONTEST The tournament at the grand carnival (St. Francis’ Hall, Hill street), caused much excitement among the various teams’ supporters. There have been some exciting pulls the winning margin at time being as little as half an inch. At last night’6 entertainment the Port Nicholson team beat Rowland’s team, and Ryan’s team defeated Duffy’s team by a narrow margin. There are numerous o%;er items of interest. dancing displays by Wellington teachers and grand military manoeuvres arranged by Mr Joe Knowsley, adding considerably to the evening’s enjoyment. Altogether the organisation is successful in ensuring a good time for carnival patrons.
