STOREMEN’S UNION
WELLINGTON MEN MEET AX AWARD WANTED. A muss meeting of tho storemen employed in the Hutt road oil, stores was held yesterday, and the matter of the alleged unreasonable delay in not making an award covering the industry m the Wellington district was ! fully discussed. j The questions of wages and shift work were the only points submitted to the court for decision. The case was heard on September 16tii, 1926, and up to yesterday, November 22nd, 1926, a period of nine weeks and hve days, no award has been made by the court. Great d»».atislaetion exists among the men, because they claim that the case having been put, and evidence laid before the court, they are entitled to an award in justice and equity upon the evidence submitted. The following resolution was passer] “That this meeting of oil storemen strongly protest against the action of the Arbitration Court, in unreasonably delaying the making of an award, in the Wellington oil storemen’s dispute, in the matter of wages, as referred to the court from tho Conciliation Council, and heard by the court, on September Kith, 1920. ‘•Wo also further urge that the matter ho brought under Iho notice of the Minister for Labour for investigation. It is the unanimous opinion of tins meeting that there can be r.o justifiable reason for *>uch a lengthy delay in making an award. We therefore claim that the award when made should be retrospective from the date of hearing the case, viz., September IGth. 192 G.”
