EACH OTHER’S DEBTORS
Now that the official British National Debt figures are available, it seems that every man. woman, and child would hove an individual debt of £177 to carry if the National Debt were averaged throughout the population. ‘‘During the past year, we managed to save sufficient to pay off 15s per head,” says a London paper, “so not even a baby can hope to live to see i the whole of the debt paid off, even if the nation can still save at that rate. Taking the area of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the National Debt works out to £1 far every 30 square vards.
‘‘Five-sixths of the debt is owing to our own people at home, and so practically all of us owe about £3O each abroad and the rest to each other.”
