THOROUGHBRED YEARLINGS
SALE AT TRENTHAM SPLENDID SUPPORT BY BREEDERS. Up till Saturday, 20th instant, some ninety entries had been received from breeders in all parts of the Dominion for the first of the annual yearling sales to be held at Trentlnim 'on the off day of tho Wellington summer meeting. Tho sale promises, which are being erected by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., arc being pushed ahead, and will be ready for tho accommodation of the yearlings well in advance of the sale. It is intended that the youngsters will be on view at least for one week prior to the sale. Auckland entries are substantial, and it is hoped to arrange for a special train to convey these from the northern province direct to Trentliani. Trainers may probably bo‘able to arrange to send forward their teams by this special train also. Northern breeders who have so far made entries comprise Mr W. C. Ring, yeatlings by Valkyrian (imp.) and Potoa; Messrs* J. and J. Paterson, yearlings by Surveyor; Dr. E. H. B. Milsom, by Catmint (imp.) and Romeo (imp.); Mr R. C. Wallace, by , Catmiut. (imp.) and Valkyrian (imp.); Mr B. O’Brien, by General Latour and Nassau; and Dr. Ring, by Valkyrian; a total of 24*. Mr George Currio, the Wanganui breeder, who was the first to support this sale, cancelling his annual Koatanui fixture in order to do so, has the honour of being the largest vendor with thirteen nominations, the progeny of Absurd (imp.), Limond (imp.), and the first of Thespian’s gets. Another Wanganui supporter is the Westmere stud master, Mr John Donald, with youngsters by his imported horses, Chief Ruler and Tonbridge, and a colt and filly by Archery (imp.). -• There will b© a strong representation from the leading Hawke’s Bay studs, as Messrs T. H. Lowry, W, G. Stead, A. J. Toxward, and J. D. Ormond have made substantial entries, representing the imported sires. Grandcourt, Psychology, Leighton, and Lord Quex, and in the case of the latter two breeders, Tea Tray, Chief Ruler, Tonbridge, Paper Money, and King Mark. The Ellerslie Stud, Oamaru, is also represented by a choice lot of colts by Kilbrouey (imp.), Paper Money (imp.), and Tpa Tray (imp.). Mr lan Duncan, who annually held a sale of Waikanae and later of Ellerslie yearlings at Wellington, in January, has also cancelled this fixture in order that the big New Zealand sale will secure the undivided attention of breeders at that time. The Ellerslie stud sires will be represented by some other notable youngsters entered by breeders in both islands, including Messrs W. R. Kemball, Masterton; Alan Cambridge. Duijedm; S. Gibbons, Marton; and W. jib Bidwell, Featlierston. The latter breeder has also two nominations of hH well-known home-bred champion, Elevation, and Mr W. R. Kemball has made three of yearlings by Hymestra. Another imported nomination from Wairarajm is that of probably tho only Martian colt in the Dominion to-day, a handsome youngster from Kildoe, foaled at the Kinloch Stud, Little River, and owned by Mr A. McDonald. Mr J. F. Buchanan, the Little River st-udmaster. has him self nominated a .splendid trio of colts by Paladin (imp.). This sire is aho well represented in the entry lists, while the southern sire, Solferino, will have a youngster claiming full relationshix> to Count Cavour among his representatives. Mr Ken Austin, the well-known Australian authority, associated with Messrs H. Chislhoim and Co., will arrive in the Dominion early in January. Mr Austin will submit the yearlings to auction, and he will certainly have a very representative catalogue.
