RELIABILITY CONTEST
AUSTRALIAN EVENT. A ten-days’ reliability and touring contest promoted by the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, Sydney, was successfully carried out from October 14th to 23rd, over a course from Sydney to Coolangatta and back, a distance of about 1300 miles. 'Eighteen contestants took part in the trial, which included such interesting subsidiary events as hill climbing, flying mile, flexibility, slow speed and acceleration t««t*. The trial was divided into two classes; class A for cars with engines under 3000 e.c.. and class B ever 3000 e.c. Maximum noints of 500 were nlloted for reliability, and'a total of 300 points for the suhsidiarv events. Grand total, 800 points. The winner in class A was Enure Gidclings (Rover), with a total of 727.40 points, and class B was won hv W. B. Lnrko (Ohrvsler) with a total of 700.04 points. The winning cars were shod with Diinlon tyres, in fact. 12 of the 18 cars taking part in the contest; were equipped with Dunlop tvres. Tn the Penzance club’s gymkhana the rider of a. horse challenged a motorcyclist to a 100-yard rare (standing start): the horse won hv 25 yards.
