HUTT POWER BOARD
MEMBER WITHDRAWS FROM COMMITTEE ALL ABOUT A CIRCULAR. The fortnightly meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was held on Thursday. Present: Mr A. J.,McCurdy (chairman), and Messrs A. J. Hobbs. G. McNamara, H. W. Lawrence, 7 W. H. P. Barber, E. AVindley, H. Jay, and S. Blackley. The engineer reported in regard to a fire which had occurred at Upper Hutt in Pine avenue, and stated that Inspector Taylor had cxamTiftl tire debris tho morning alter (lie iuc. end there was absolutely nothing to show that tho fire was In any ua.v caused by tho electrical wiring. Any evidence that remained was indeed quite to the contrary. Two claims for compensation were referred to the board’s solicitors. The Petone Borough Council drew attention to the fact that lamps within the borough were often out for a considerable time after the board had been advised. The complaint was referred to the engineer for report.
On the motion of Mr Hobbs, the technical committee was asked to report on the question of numbering tho poles on which street lights were placed. A complaint from the Makara County Council regarding the placing of a street light at Tawa Flat was referred to the engineer. It was decided to apply to the Public Works Department for a refund of £2l, paid for car hire for the inspector who hod inspected the board’s lines.
Mr S. Blackley withdrew from the committee set up to publish a circular regarding the loan proposal, as a protest against the action of the chairman in issuing a circular without the authority of the hoard. The chairman explained that the circular had been issued at his own ox?ienso, and copies had been issued beoro the committee had been set up.
Mr Jnv was appointed to tl*» vacancy on the committee.
