"KAWAU” ISLE OF ROMANCE
The island of Kawau, which lies northward of the entrance to Auckland Harbour, is one of the veritable isles of romance in New Zealand, for here in the early days, of Maori and oven Maoriori occupation tho island figured prominently in many of the feuds and raids of the northern tribes, and latterly became a jumpingoff place for many of the canoe pirates in the earlv times of European settlement on the mainland. At a later date Sir George Grey bought the island for the purpose of making for himself a home in retirement, and nt the head of what is known as Bon Accord Harbour he built the now famous Mansion House. Here for many years the groat statesman cast the spell of In's personality on the place, and when he left for England Kawau was indeed an island paradise. If there is an Island in New Zealand '.which rightly deserves the title of Isle of Romance it is certainly Kawau, and the film of the island taken by the Government Publicity Office for release in a night’s time through tho Metro-Gold-Wyn-Mayer circuit should satisfy oven tlie most fastidious pleasure-seeker that the island lives up to its captivating title.
