GRAND CARNIVAL
TUG-OF-WAR contest The numerous patrons of the Grand Carnival and tug-of-war contest at St. I 1 rancis’s Hall last night appreciated the excellent programme arranged. The tug-of-war excited the greatest interest, the audience anplnuding vigorously for tlieir favourites. Tooliill’s team overcame Dealey’s team by 12 inches, after a good pull, and 51 Cecil’s team defeated Nomads team by six inches. The grand spectacular military manoeuvres, specially arranged by Mr Joe Knowsley, provided much entertainment, while the various games and side-shows were well patronised, and altogether the evening passed with a vim that augurs well for the continued success of the carnival, which will last until the 29th. There is n special matinee this afternoon.
