ANOTHER. ENJOYABLE EVENING. Great was the enthusiasm shown by the large audience for the concert given by the hoys of the Tamaroa nt the British Sailors’ Society’s roomb, 57, Cuba street, on Tuesday last. Tlie whole programme was arranged by the Tamaroa, assisted by two local entertainers. Each item was greeted with applause, tlie performers having, to respond with encore after encore. The chairman for the evening was the Rev. D. Campbell, of Dunedin, who spoke of the aims and objects of the society in his short opening address. Supper was in the hands of the ladies of the assembly, and was handed round during the interval. At tlie close of the evening the chairman proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the performers and also to the workers of the society, who nro all voluntary, and these were carried with acclamation and cheers hy those present. The band of the Tamaroa rendered yeoman service during the evening. Items were contributed by the following: Messrs Petherick, Bevnn, Leathby, Lines, Scott, Coupland, Campbell! Barry, Craddock, Sims, and Jimmy Lockwood. Mr Phillips was the accompanist for tlie evening. On Wednesday the usual mid-week social vyas hold, the rooms being again filled with the men who follow the sea. Songs, games, and instrumental items were indulged in, and a very pleasant time snent till 10.30 p.m. Supper was banded round by the young ladies of tbo society during the evening.
