SOUTH AUSTRALIAN OIL WELLS
"EXISTENCE OF PETROLEUM PROVED” EyaiNEER’S~~ASSKRTION. Bv Telegraph.—Pres# Assn.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 19. In connection with a statement made by the Director of Geological Survey in reference to the South Australian oil wells, the field superintendent of the company, after consultation with the directors, has issued a statement in which he says: “In refutation of the reports recently circulated as to the absence of mineral oil in our bore at Caroline, I definitely state that 1 have proved the existence of crude petroleum in the bore. Its presence has been demonstrated to many people, including visiting directors, ana but for the unexpected intrusion of water in the bore we would before this have been producers of crude oil, probably on a commercial scale. This is my definite opinion as a petroleum engineer of many years’ experience.” He adds that his opinion is backed by two other well-known experts.
