MUNICIPAL ELECTORS’ ASSOCIATION .u the monthly meeting of the cutive of the Brooklyn District Municipal Electors’ Association, Mr G. Read presiding, it was reported that the sum of £lO3 had been paid over to the Carillon Society as Brooklyn, Mornington and Vogeltown contributions towards a bell, and that the action of the delegates in agreeing to combine with Lyall Bay »nd Hataitai for a district bell costing £352,, was approved. Any funds standing to the credit after deducting the local quota to go towards Brooklyn Association credit for the campanile. It was resolved that the association requests the delegates, Messrs George Slade and J. R. Goldsmith, to express the association’s approval at the next Carillon Society’s meeting of the four-in-one proposal of a national memorial and campanile on Mount Cook site. The secretary was requested to write to the reserves oommittee of the City Council asking when Brooklyn delegates are to meet the Director of Reserves, with reference to the drawing up of plans and specifications for the shelter shed and conveniences for the play area at Brooklyn as agreed upon by the committee. The City Council is to be written to regarding the condition of Ohiro road. It was also decided to ask why the order-in-council had not been given effect to with reference to taking over a strip of* land in front of Crabtree’s premises for road, widening purposes.
The Tramway Department is to be asked to arrange for motormen to stop cars at Ohiro road shelter shed sufficiently forward to allow motorcars to go to the level of the road. It was decided that a mirror be placed at the corner of Todman street so that approaching cars may be visible to avoid collision, and to insist on motormen sounding gongs when turning Till’s corner. It was agreed that a letter he sent to the council congratulating that body on the satisfactory manner in which the work of laying the tram duplication from Seager’s corner to Todman street .was earned out.
The council is to be written to asking what roads are to be bitumenised and when the works are to be carried out. It was resolved that the letter from the Civic League notifying the association of the result of the ballot for the nomination of the league’s candidate for the Mayoralty, he considered at the next meeting.
