UNEMPLOYMENT LOAN

EXTRA £2OOO AUTHORISED TOTAL TO BE RAISED £12,000 GOVERNMENT CONSENT GIVEN When a resolution authorising the raising of £12,000 for unemployment in Wellington city was placed before the City Council yesterday for confirmation, Councillor H. D. Bennett asked why the amount of the loan had been increased from £IO,OOO. to £12,000. It was understood, he said, that the amount was to be £IO,OOO, Councillor R. A. Wright (who presided in the absence of the Mayor) explained that the Mayor had advised securing authority for £12,000 because of the work in hand, it being understood that if the money was not required it would not be borrowed. The Acting-Prime Minister had agreed to the raising of the extra money. Councillor H. D. Bennett: Wifi the extra £2OOO be spent upon the same work ? Councillor Wright: That will be for the council itself to say, Councillor W. H. Bennett: Yes, I understand the extra £2OOO will be required to finish the work in hand. The resolution authorising the loan was confirmed.
