BREACHES OF AWARDS

LABOUR DEPARTMENT PROSECUTES MAGISTRATE ENTERS CONVICTIONS. Mr R. T. Bailey, representing the Labour Department, brought two prosecutions for breaches of awards in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Thomas Breftnan, licensee of the Britannia Hotel, was charged with failing to pay an employee proportional holiday allowance under the Wellington Licensed Hotel Award, and with failing to pay special overtime to several employees who had worked on the King’s Birthday. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., imposed a penalty of £1 on each charge. _ A fine of £1 was also imposed in the case of Messrs B. and D. Gerondis, who were convicted of failing to pay an employee proportionate holiday allowance.
