DAIRY BOARD MEETS

DISCLOSURES DISCUSSED MR TIMPANY NOT PRESENT NOTICE GOES ASTRAY Because his notice of meeting was forwarded to the incorrect address, Mr T. M. Timpany was unable to reach Wellington in time for the meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board. He telegraphed this information to the board, however, and his explanation was read at the meeting. According to a statement issued from the board office during the sitting of the board yesterday, disappointment at the inability of Mr Timpany to attend was expressed by tho acting-chairman, Mr J. R. Thacker, who said he had intended to comment Dn what lie called the unjustified publication of confidential cablegrams by Mr Timpany, and would have preferred to do so in Mr Timpany’s presence. He strongly disapproved Mr Timpany’s action, and assured the board that it was without his (the speaker’s) authority or sanction. Mr Timpany’s action was quite outside any business procedure, particularly as regards the cablegram from the L’rimo Minister. That cablegram had been received by the board by courtesy of the Minister for Agriculture, and it was quite outside the bounds -_f etiquette and procedure to publish it. He strongly and emphatically protested against such publication. Other members briefly concurred with the chairman’s remarks, comment however being, in Mr Timpany's absence, restrained. “The secretary, Mr T. C. Bush (the statement goes on) strongly objected to the suggestion that cablegrams received had been held back from the board. The Prime Minister’s cablegram, Mr Brash stated, had been immediately read to the board on its receipt from the Minister for Agriculture by a special messenger, and the Minister, following a telephone message, had &ent the cablegram on without delay after receiving it.” The following resolution was unanimously passed: “That tho board deprecates the publication of cablegrams and confidential information by individual members of the board, as such information and documents are not the property of individual members of the board itself.” Mr T. C. Brash declined to com. municate tho later proceedings of the meeting to a “Times” reporter last evening.
