A CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL

The social circle of the Early Settlers’ Club has recently been holding a Children’s Queen Carnival, when four candidates competed for the position of queen. These were: The Queen of Clubs, Ruth Domb; Queen of Diamonds, Greta Bailey; Queen of Spades, Smith; and of Hearts, Hinemoa London. The final count placed the Queen of Clubs at the top of the poll, and the crowning ceremony took place at the Early Settlers’ Hall last night. A stage had been erected, and a procession was formed of heralds, pages, ladies-in-waiting, cushionbearers, the Lord High Chamberlain, and the Mistress of the Robe. The last, interpreted by Miss Guthrie, was in charge of the ceremony, and everything was done in truly regal manner. After the ceremony and the due “dubbing” of knights, the rest of the evening was devoted to song and dance. The “Cheerio Entertainers” gave a programme, and dancing followed; the children earlier had a lovely time with games and slides on the polished floors, and doubtless wished for a carnival every night. Mr Domb, secretary of the Social Circle, was in charge of the arrangements.
