A TURF MYSTERY
THE CASE OF OVERDRAWN Behind the success of Overdrawn in the Winton Cup yesterday is an element of mystery. How and when did Overdrawn get into the race? According to the official organ of racing, “The New Zealand Referee” (see issue of November 4th), he was not nominated for the race. Here are the nominations Soltoe, Full Swing, Apache, Baldowa, Warhaven, Monoxide, _ Corn Rigs, Kilfane, Doleful Ditty, Ravenna, Bugle Note, Geranial, and Heather Lad. The same journal of November 11th publishes the handicaps, and, as would be expected if a horse is. not nominated, Overdrawn does not appear in the list. Witness—the handicaps: Ravenna 9.4, Baldowa 9.2, Warhaven 8.1, Full Swing 8.1, Heather Lad' 7.13, Apache 7.10, Corn Rigs - 7.9, Bugle’Note 7.6, Kilfane 7.3, .Monoxide 7,3, Geranial 7.3, Doleful Ditty 7, Soltoe 7. Overdrawn ran prominently enough at the New Zealand Cup Meeting to suggest that he might win in country cup company, and yesterday he was backed to odds on at Winton. I He won. But how, and when, did this Hazlett horse get into the Winton Cup?
