“THE UNFAIR SEX”
I CLEVER FARCICAL COMEDY I AT GRAND OPERA HOUSE. j Eric Hudson’s clever three-act farci cal comedy, “The Unfair Sex,” agair scored a decided hit when presented bj Joseph Cunningham’s English Comedj Company at the Grand Opera Houst last evening, “The Unfair Sex” is a diverting comedy, and, with all its froth anc bubble, provides a good burlesque oi human foibles. It offers lively entertainment,' being tellinglj written and humorously conceived Funny enough, in fact, to keep the audience in a simmer of giggles throughout the performance. It treats of promiscuous flirtation, the Divorce Court, the birth-rate, and golf in the spirit of raillery, but there is a moral substratum which cannot be overlooked. Miss Zillah Bateman is both convincing and clever as Diana Trevor. She displays personality and incisiveness, and oarries off most effectively the numerous comical situations created during the progress of the play. Miss Vera St. John (an ex-Welling-ton girl) creates in the character of Joan the true type of the.modern flapper who has very advanced ideas on love and marriage. Miss Henrietta Cavendish displays telling diction in the role of Helen Delisse (Joan’s mother). Mr Campbell Copelin gives a clever comedy rendering of the casual husband, Geoffrey' Trevor, a likeable fellow, free and unconstrained, and of the athletio type. As Harvey . Fane, the si)ly ass who is kissed by one -woman and caught by another, Mr Norman Carter is pleasingly diverting. In the role of Sir Henry Hesketh, a Divorce Court K.C., with most steadfast views concerning the relationship between divorce and childishness, Mr Frank Bradley gives a realistic characterisation. Miss Sylvia Clifton makes the most of the role of Tinker, the maid, aqd Mr Jack Phillips is Smith, the cabby, a man with a large family and a consistent thirst. “The Unfair Sex” will bo repeated this evening and the two following evenings.
