A GREAT SUCCESS
IMMENSE CROWD ON PEOPLE'S DAY. AUCKLAND, November 17. People’s day at the Royal Show) today proved wonderfully successful. The fine weather attracted a great crowd, which was estimated at 40,000, and the gate takings were large, in fact so large that at half-past nine to-night the officials had not finished counting them. The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson attended, and presented the Royal Show championship ribands. The crowd displayed great interest in inspecting the fine live stock exhibits, and in witnessing the riding and jumping competitions. A party of naval cadets from H.M.S. Philomel gave a display of gun drill, and twelve teams of girls from the Inter-house Girls' Athletic Association gave a good exhibition of gymnastics. The gate takings amounted to £I9BG 14s making a total for the two days of £2136.
