Sir Hugh Denison, the !.Australian Trade Commissioner, presented \to President Cbolidge in the yard of the White House a painting depicting the visit of the Ameiican Meet. • Sir Hugh said that the people in the various Australian States were resolved to leave no stone unturned to make the stay of the officers and men %S the navy as pleasant as was possible, so that not only would the cordial feeling existing between the peo pie of the United Stltes and Australia be further fostered, but also it wras hoped that through the visit of so many American citizens a better knowledge of Australia and its people might permeate America on their return. , There was also the underlying feeling that the peace and well-being of the various races in the countries bordering on, and in the Pacific could be better assured by close friendship and harmony between the new great Englinsh-speaking peoples whose respective shores lay along northern and southern tides of that ocean. Both had shown their desire for peace and a reduction in warlike expenditures by their hearty concurrence as expressed in the terms of the Washington Naval Agreement.
