FIERCE FIRE IN AUCKLAND
GOODS STORE DAMAGED OWNER SCORCHED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 16. A tire to-night in a one-storied brick building in Newton road, occupied by Homo and Colonial Stores, as head office and storeroom, caused extensive damage. The fire burned fiercely, aud the brigade had a hard task to subdue it. Tho value of the stock is given as £13,000. It consisted of provisions, fancy goods, sacks of produce, and other goods. Mr J. Robertson, owner of the building, and proprietor and manager of Home and Colonial Stores, was sitting in his office at the. front of the building, when a passer by threw up the window and told him the rear of the building was in flara.esi Robertson made hurried efforts to save important papers, but the lights failed, and he bad to clash for safety. His hands and face were scorched by the' flames.
