COST OF CRICKET

BASIN RESERVE PRACTICE WICKETS DEPUTATION WAITS ON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. Following the recent decision of the Wellington Cricket Association to raise the fee for practice wickets at the Basin Reserve from <£3 to £6 per wicket, a deputation representing* the clubs concerned waited upon the management committee last evening with the request that last season’s charge of £3 per wicket be Teverted to. The deputation, which consisted of Messrs w. A. Baker (Midland), Parton (Institute), Stainton (Old Boys), Waller (Wellington), and Gillies (Y.M.C.A.), pointed out that each of the five clubs concerned had two practice wickets. Taking into consideration the hard row to hoo which clubs had experienced last season in order to make financial ends meet when the fee was .£3 per wicket, the raising of the charge, to .05 per wicket would seridusly embarrass the finances of the majority of the clubs. Mr C. G. Wilson (chairman) said that as far as tho management committee was concerned, chibs could rest assured that the parent body was desirous of making the cost of cricket as cheap as possible. The management committee would consider the position and come to a decision at the next meeting.
