PICNIC FOR THE BLIND
A HAPPY GATHERING. There are fifty-three totally blind persons resident in Wellington, and yesterday the majority attended a picnic,, which was inaugurated for their benefit at Day’s Bay. The uncertain weather did not damp the spirits of the afflicted ones, and it was a merry party that journeyed round the harbour under the able charge of Captain Galloway, secretary to the Red Cross Society. In the afternoon Mrs J. Isaac’s concert party entertained both the blind and their sighted assistants, and the various items were greatly appreciated. Mr Clutlia Mackenzie, director cf the Institute for the Blind at Auckland, was present, and leaves for the south to attend featherings of a similar nature at Christchurch and Dunedin. It is hoped to make the outing a monthly one during the summer. On Thursday, December 9th, a concert wilt be broadcasted from the institute at Auckland.
