ALTERNATIVES FOR “WAITER”
The restaurant-owners of New York have given prizes for five terms which is hoped the public will use for the wielders of the The five terms are :“Service, please,” “steward.” “orderman,” “cardman,” and ‘Server.” The contest, conducted in the hope of bringing forth a name more suitable than “waiter,” which the restauranteurs considered as tending to lower the self-respect of their employees, failed to uncover any sintrie synonym, wholly acceptable to the judges. Consequently the prize was divided among five contestants for their respective suggestions.
