USEFUL FOR PEACE PURPOSES

BRITISH MILITARY TANKS MR COATES IMPRESSED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, November 14. Mr J. 6. Coates, interviewed by the Australian Press Association, said that the tank demonstration at Camberley showed not only the striking development of military mcfchaniealisation, but the value of mechanical transport for civil purposes. The military tanks and tractors exhibited might be profit- . ably adapted to the development of works in new countries. Instead of having to construct expensive roads ahead of the railway, material for hydro-electric and irrigation works could be conveyed to the site of' operations immediately by the new method cf motor transport. The army’s experiments in mechanical transport were thus most important to the whole Empire for commercial as well as for war purposes.
