COMMEMORATE NEW BUILDING
VICTORIA LAUNDRY CO.’S BANQUET AND DANCE The Victoria Laundry Compa’hjTk imposing new factory in Hanson street presented a gay appearance on Saturday evening when a banquet and dance was tendered by the firm, to commemorate tho opening of the spacious new buildings. The interior of the factory was magnificently decorated and lighted, and the large floor space proved delightful for dancing. Mr W. Naismith, the managing director, presided over a large attendance, over four hundred sitting down to the banquet. A short toast list was honoured, the principal toast of the evening, that of “The Victoria Laundry Company,” being proposed by Mr W. Naismith and responded to by Mr Burns and Mr Flanagan. Mr Naismith. in giving an interesting outline of the firm’s history, mado special reference to the fact that the function also commmemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the Victoria Laundry Company. During the evening, on behalf of the directors, a handsome presentation was made to Mr H. H. Flanagan, the firm’s secretary. Presentations for long service were also made to Mesdames Lawton and Farrington, Misses Underwood and Franklyn, and Messrs Ker, Stewart, Hopplestone, Moore and Green. The delightful musical programme rendered during the evening by Mr and Mrs Albert Russell, and Messrs J. Hunt and Brockenshier, was thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd present. The directors took the opportunity during the evening to present Mr C. A. Martin, the architect, and Messrs Jones and Cameron, the contractors, with beautiful oak trays, suitably inscribed.
