UNPRECEDENTED SHAKES
AMUSING SCENES BARBER WITH RAZOR AND SOAPED CUSTOMER FLEE BANKER RUNS. WITH ANOTHER’S BOOTS Per Press Association. ■HAMILTON. November 13. Two further shakes were felt at Hamilton last evening. Although they were somewhat severe there was nu damage. Widespread damage was done at Morrinsville yesterday, but the suirounding districts suffered less severely. , , , , At Morrinsville several people had narrow escapes from injury. This is the severest earthquake in memory. The number of shocks is unprecedented. There have been 12 since 3 n.in. yesterday. The infants’ school roof was so damaged as to render the buildings unsafe for occupation. The losses of tradesmen, due to broken goods, are extensive. A woman struck by a flying brick had her head severely lacerated, necessitating attention. • A barber and his customer ran into the street, one with a razor in his hand, the other with his face lathered and a towel round his neck. A bank manager ran out of a boot shop with some boots in his hand. positionTmproving AUCKLAND. November 14. The latest message from Morrinsville states that business there, which was completely disorganised vesterday, is now returning to normal. No shocks have been felt since 8.40 this morning. It is also noticed the shocks have been decreasing in severity, there being a five-hours’ interval without tremors. NON EY ESTEP D AY. AUCKLAND, November 14. Advices by telephone from Morrinsville state that no more earthquakes occurred today. Residents are now repairing the damage.
