WELLINGTON COLLAPSE AGAINST PETONE
After intermittent morning showers the weather cleared before noon, and bright sunshine favoured the opening afternoon’s play of the third series of senior cricket championship matches. Thorndon compiled 258 against Old Boys, while ’Varsity gained a big lead over Midland on the Basin No. 2 wicket. Small scoring characterised the Kilbirnie—Y.M.C.A. match at Kilbirnie. Wellington collapsed in the face of the strong Petone attack, on the '‘Village” wicket. Taking first strike on the Hutt wicket, Hutt batsmen fared only moderately well against Institute. A. M. Hollings (’Varsity) was the outstanding batsman, putting on 106 not out, against Mid-
land, thus topping the century mark twice in succession.
